December fun

In case anyone thinks that I'm going to have nothing to do but enjoy myself this Christmas break, I am posting the three Area Essay questions I have to complete by the time I get back in January (2500 words or 10 pages each). I'm also posting them in case I lose the piece of paper listing them. Anyway, to the questions:

1. In what ways does the literature on globalization help us understand diaspora formation? To what extent can we speak of a Philippine diaspora?

2. Explore the role of Internet use in diasporic identity formation.

3. What are some of the methodological issues associated with on-line ethnography? For example, is it possible to understand the social context (and locatedness) of an Internet user? How might questions of agency and power be addressed?

Not to worry, though, I've had these questions since November 9, so I've already started some of the research, plus I'll have loads of free time on the flight to Cali. With proper time management, I calculate I'll have approximately 5 minutes and 23 seconds of free time in between brushing my teeth and going to bed in order to have fun. Boiling eggs is pretty fun, after all.
